In the USA the Friday after Thanksgiving is traditionally called "Black Friday" and is used as a bridge day to do the first Christmas shopping. In the USA, the shopping day has been established
for years and since 2006 it has also entered the market in Germany and is increasingly being picked up by retailers.
For the first time on 25th of November 2016, on the initiative of the City Management Hamburg, a joint "extreme-discount-day" took place, beeing called "Black Friday City Hamburg" in the city center of Hamburg. Hamburg's city officially started the christmas shopping season.
